FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about buying, selling, and consigning pre-owned BMW GS and GSA motorcycles through GS Bike Traders.
- Do I need an appointment to view a bike?
- Yes — viewings are by appointment. This gives each buyer proper time with the bike and full disclosure. Phone or WhatsApp to arrange a viewing.
- What documents should I bring when selling my GS?
- Original registration certificate (or NaTIS document), service book, any service invoices, spare key if available, and both forms of ID. If the bike is still financed, bring a settlement letter.
- Do you buy accident-damaged bikes?
- No. If we pick up that a bike has been in an accident, we do not buy it in. Our standard is clean, well-presented bikes with full history.
- Do you offer consignment?
- Yes. We sell the bike on your behalf to help you recover fair value without handling every enquiry yourself. We agree a target price and commission up front — no fees until the bike sells.
- What does service history mean on a used GS?
- Documented service records — ideally a stamped service book plus invoices from a BMW dealer or recognised workshop. We focus on bikes with full history where possible.
- Can I enquire about a bike that is sale pending?
- Yes — please get in touch. If the deposit falls through, sale-pending bikes often become available again. We will keep your details on file.
- Are sold bikes still shown on the website?
- Yes — sold bikes appear in our archive at /sold. This helps buyers understand the market and provides proof of recent trading activity.
- Do you sell accessories?
- Yes. We stock a small range of GS-related accessories including panniers, bashplates, riding gear, and select helmets. Browse /accessories for current stock.
- Do you deliver outside Cape Town?
- We arrange nationwide delivery on every sale at the buyer's cost. We work with regular transporters who handle GS bikes safely.
- How do I get a valuation for my GS?
- Send Jaco a WhatsApp message with the bike model, year, mileage, service history, and a few photos. We will come back with a fair indicative offer or a consignment proposal.
- What should I check before buying a used BMW GS in South Africa?
- Service history (ideally stamped service book plus invoices from a BMW dealer or recognised workshop), spare key presence, frame and fairing condition, accident indicators (paint thickness, bent levers, replaced panels, ECU codes), accessory completeness against what was claimed, and the bike’s provenance. A short test ride by an experienced GS owner is also worth arranging. We share all of this in writing on every listing.
- How do I know if a used GS has been in an accident?
- Look for repainted panels (paint thickness readings), uneven panel gaps, replaced or repainted fairings, bent or replaced levers, evidence of crash damage on the bars or frame, ECU error codes that haven’t been cleared, and service-history gaps. We do not knowingly buy accident-damaged bikes into stock — if we pick up that a bike has been in an accident, we do not list it.
- Can you source a specific BMW GS that’s not in your current stock?
- Often yes. Many of our sales come from owners approaching us directly because they want a particular model, year, or spec. Tell us what you’re looking for and we will reach out to our existing owner network and consignment pipeline. There’s no charge for the search and no obligation to buy.
